While you’re wedding planning, use these seasonal tips to ensure you’re ready for whatever Mother Nature has in store on your wedding day! As New Englanders, we know we get all four seasons in full force. It’s part of what I love about living in Boston. The light, the temperature, the sunset times, and the humidity are just some of the things that all vary greatly over the course of the year. And each season brings some unique considerations with it in terms of planning. I hope the seasonal tips below help you, no matter what season you’re getting married in!

Winter

~We all know that New England winters are chilly! Plan to take outdoor photos at a locale that is adjacent to a building where you and your wedding party can warm up between shots or keep the limo running and close by!

~You’ll want to start photos in the early afternoon because it gets dark so early on and there isn’t any lingering light at dusk like there is in the summer.

~Consider gifting your bridesmaids with pashminas or faux fur wraps that they can use to keep warm and that will also look cute in photos.

~Embrace the snow! Snow lightly falling or blanketing the ground will make for some super beautiful and romantic photos. Trust me, it’s worth braving the cold for a few minutes!

Spring & Fall

~Since many flowers will still be buds in early spring or leaves may have already fallen in late fall, don’t count on great greenery. Choose outdoor locations for photos that include architecture, city views, or views of the water.

~Consider a shrug or long dresses that for bridesmaids. Spring and fall temps vary greatly and keeping the ladies warm and comfy will help keep wedding photos fun.

~With spring snow melt and fall rains, the ground may be quite damp and mushy. Have the ladies consider wedges or bring along a second pair of shoes so they don’t sink into the wet ground and ruin their heels during photos.

Summer

~Being hot and sweaty on your wedding day is never fun. Plan photos around shady locales or schedule them for later in the day so you and your wedding party can beat the heat!

~If it’s really hot and humid, have the groom and groomsmen pack a second dress shirt to change into part way through the day to stay comfortable and look their best.

~Have your MOH carry shine blotters in her purse so you can keep your faces fresh and shine-free throughout the day.

All Year Long

~Make sure you have a rain plan! You’ll want to make sure you like the look and feel of the alternative spaces at your ceremony and reception sites so that if you do move inside you’ll love the setup just as much as the outdoor one you chose originally. This of course goes for photo locations as well! It’s always better to have a plan and not need it, than to be stressed out on your wedding day! And ask your photographer if they have a clear umbrella you can use for couples portraits. I always bring one if the forecast calls for rain. If your photographer doesn’t have one or if you want enough for the whole bridal party, check out this option on Amazon.
