Sophie and Avik first met in English class in high school, which was a perfect tie in for their Boston Public Library Wedding. It also made the card catalog escort display extra fun and meaningful. They loved the architecture and history that the venue showcased. Sophie and Avik focused on incorporating both of their cultures, which made for a beautiful and thoughtful multicultural wedding weekend celebration that was uniquely their own.
REHEARSAL DINNER | BOSTON WEDDING WEEKEND
They started the weekend with a vibrant welcome party hosted by Avik’s parents at an Indian restaurant called Maharaja in Cambridge. The majority of Avik’s family traveled from India for the wedding, which made their wedding weekend even more special. His Auntie brought saris for Sophie, her Mom, and each of her bridesmaids, which added a special touch from Avik’s culture. They also sourced traditional Indian wedding treats like scarves, beaded purses, candies, and bangles that were available for guests. Avik’s Aunt even had fresh strands of marigolds, which is an important symbol of blessings and happiness in Hindu weddings, shipped over from New Delhi. The evening was full of hugs, delicious food, laughter, and toasts to the happy couple by all of their parents and grandmothers.
BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY WEDDING DAY | GETTING READY
Their wedding day was a largely monochromatic affair of whites, with some pale blush pink woven in. They had a stunning custom invitation suite with green and gold accents, which set a great tone for their black-tie wedding. “At Last” was etched in Avik’s wedding band, and they actually danced to the song “At Last” by Etta James for their first dance as husband and wife. It’s a fitting choice, since they’ve been together since high school. Their whole day had so many special touches! Sophie led parents and bridesmaids through meditation the morning of the wedding to help center everyone, calm nerves, and channel positive energy for their Boston Public Library wedding.
Afterward, Sophie’s bridesmaids put together a fun slide show of the bachelorette weekend and viewed it as a group before Sophie got into her dress. Mom helped Sophie with her last getting-ready details and assisted her into the wedding dress for the final moments of the morning. Meanwhile, Avik was putting on his tux and relaxing with his groomsmen before heading to see Sophie at their first look.
PORTRAITS ON STEPS OF THE BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
They decided to take separate wedding party photos on the steps of the Boston Public Library before doing their first look inside on the grand staircase. Avik started to tear up when he saw Sophie for the first time in her wedding dress; it was such a sweet, memorable moment. Sophie & Avik each instantly launched into telling one another their days and couldn’t stop hugging as they spoke. They were so happy to have given themselves enough time to slow down and really enjoy their first look together! They both mentioned their love for all the beautiful architecture inside and out that the Boston Public Library has to offer, so we made sure we explored it all and created some beautiful timeless portraits for them.
PUBLIC LIBRARY WEDDING CEREMONY | FAMILY
Their big day was overcast, with on-and-off rain, but we were still able to capture all of the important moments outside. We took photos under the arches of the library courtyard for full wedding party and family portraits. It had started to sprinkle, but the arches were the perfect coverage and a beautiful setting.
Their ceremony was held in the courtyard of the library, under a beautiful chuppah dripping in florals and white drapery. It was absolutely stunning! The ceremony itself was so special. A friend officiated and they incorporated rituals from both the Hindu and Jewish faiths. And it was truly a family affair, with their parents and siblings all playing roles in the ceremony.
RECEPTION FUN
After the ceremony, it was time to start the party. Sophie changed into comfy kicks and a short reception dress after the dance floor opened. This trend is a favorite, and I highly recommend it for brides who love fashion and want to make a statement in their dress, but also want to dance the night away without being weighed down.
All their siblings and parents gave toasts at the dinner reception. All the speeches were sweet and funny and showed just how much love is shared in their relationship. A love shared not just between Sophie and Avik – but between their families as well.
The focus was on family and friends during their special weekend. They truly were present for each and every part of the big day. Both Sophie and Avik are so kind and thoughtful; the warmth of the two families was palpable.
