Kayla and Jasper got married at the Boston Museum of Science on a gorgeous day full of lots of personal touches. From starting their engagement session in their own neighborhood to the intentional choices about the flow of their day, it was so evident that they value meaningful moments and worked toward making their day uniquely theirs.
They decided to have their wedding in Boston, despite both living in other places when they met, because it was a place that was shared between them. Jasper loves science as a clinical psychologist, so the Museum of Science was a natural fit for them. They fell in love with the view, and after securing the location, everything else fell into place. Their vision for the day was to share their love of travel with guests and celebrate their love for one another in an elegant and timeless style.
Getting Ready
Kayla got ready at the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge with a view of the wedding venue out the window. She was joined by her mom, bridesmaids, and sister who was her maid of honor. They all wore silk robes before changing into champagne-colored gowns. Her sister wore a gorgeous floral gown.
The bride’s mom and sister helped her get dressed, including donning a stunning cathedral-length veil. Kayla also wore a gorgeous and delicate silver and sapphire bracelet that Jasper gave her that morning. They exchanged gifts as they got ready before their first look. After she was ready, they had the sweetest reveal with the rest of the ladies.
Jasper got ready at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge with his groomsmen. He opened a watch from Kayla and spent the morning relaxing and getting ready with his groomsmen.
First Look at Boston Public Garden
The location of the first look was also the location of their engagement session which made it even more special. The wedding party came along and hung back to watch from a distance as Kayla and Jasper saw each other for the first time. Their first look was so sweet. They could not stop smiling, tearing up, and snuggling into one another. I always plan for a few extra minutes of time during the first look to let couples actually take each other in. These two jumped right into sharing about their days and savoring the moments together. That excitement and communication are one of the many things that make them such a great couple.
Portraits at the Park
Following the first look, we did couples and wedding party portraits at the park. It got seriously dark and a storm was rolling in, but they trusted me to make the final call on when we needed to wrap up. We were able to get all of their portraits done at the park, despite the coming storm! We made use of the clear umbrellas I always keep on hand. The rain lightly started to fall for some of the final images. We all got back on the bus, safe and dry, just moments before a giant thunderclap and the skies opened up!
Water View Ceremony
The rain delayed their outdoor ceremony a bit, but the wait was worth it as they said their vows in front of a water view along the Charles River. In keeping with their meaningful touches, a friend officiated the wedding. There was also a seat saved to honor Jasper’s mother, who he lost to a battle with cancer just months before the wedding. Her presence was felt throughout the day, and they included sunflowers in her honor.
Cocktail Hour & Reception
Cocktail hour was on the patio and lawn with gorgeous views of the river at sunset. After enjoying the beautiful views, guests headed to the reception tent for introductions, toasts, and dinner. The tent was transformed into a warm and inviting reception space with lush white florals and greenery on tables and woven through the chandeliers. Tables were decorated with images of the couple, many from their engagement session. There were also table numbers calling out places meaningful in their relationship and highlighting their love of travel. Then, it was out to the pavilion to dance the night away!
Kayla and Jasper’s vision for their Boston Museum of Science wedding was surely realized with nods to their careers, their love of travel, and their love!
