Sophie & Josh were married at the Langham Hotel in Boston. But, they first met when they were just 12 years old – the definition of childhood sweethearts! They started dating at 19, and have been together ever since.

When Josh decided to propose, he planned a beautiful day for Sophie. They got massages at the spa, and then came back to their apartment, where Sophie’s mom (who is a florist) had filled their apartment with peonies, which are Sophie’s favorite flower. She had really wanted a small, intimate proposal, so this was perfect. Of course, she said ‘yes’ and then they spent the evening with family to celebrate.

When these two reached out to me to photograph their celebration I knew it was going to be a special day!

Getting Ready at Langham Hotel

They got ready in different rooms at the hotel with their closest friends and family. Sophie’s mom helped her slip into her gorgeous Vera Wang wedding gown. Her mom’s company also did the florals for the wedding, which were beyond stunning. Then Sophie did a bridesmaids reveal, and it was such a cute moment of excitement! Meanwhile, Josh spent the morning with his groomsmen. He had them help with the final touches as he donned his tux and prepared to see Sophie for their first look.

The First Look

We beat the rain and were able to do their first look outside at Post Office Square. The location was still lush despite being mid-October! The bridesmaids and Sophie’s mom looked on from a distance for the first look, and it created a really special moment! And of course, Josh was in awe of his bride!

We walked back across the street to the Langham Hotel for some indoor photos afterward because it was such a cold day and the rain was on its way. The Langham is a beautiful historic building and the interior has ornate details that worked perfectly for their portraits.

The Ceremony

They signed the ketubah amongst close family and their wedding party just moments before the ceremony began. The ceremony was held on-site under a chuppa adorned with white flowers. Lush low floral arrangements also lined the aisle, lending a rich texture and beauty to the ceremony space. They asked their sister-in-law to officiate and she did an amazing job – sharing sweet memories and well wishes during her reflections in the ceremony. Everyone attending was so emotionally invested in celebrating this moment with the bride and groom that it was really beautiful to capture.

The Wedding Design

The Langham is a wonderful venue for elegant wedding receptions. It’s a historic hotel that was formerly the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. It’s been completely transformed into a luxury hotel, which perfectly complimented Sophie and Josh’s vision for a black tie event. They had a black and white theme. It was stunning and elegant, with a minimalist approach to much of the design. To complete the aesthetic they included texture and visual interest with a plethora of all-white florals. The reception was held in a modern ballroom. The look was super romantic with uplighting, abundant flowers, and hundreds of candles.

Reception at The Langham Hotel

Sophie and Josh are so kind and thoughtful. Their care for each other and their loved ones was obvious all day long, but perhaps shined through the most in the hand-written notes they wrote to each of their guests. They placed the notes at each person or couple’s seat as a surprise when everyone entered the room for dinner. It was such a lovely gesture of gratitude and love to share with each and every person who was there to celebrate with them.

Each of their grandmas gave blessings during the evening and they even had on near-matching dresses, which was adorable. Both of their moms and brothers gave toasts as well and had the room laughing and crying as they shared memories.

The newlyweds also did a choreographed first dance and then brought everyone out on the dance floor for a short dance set before dinner. I loved how it set the tone for a fun party throughout the evening. The band kept the dance floor packed after dinner, too! At the end of the reception everyone transitioned to the after party down the street. But first, guests indulged in some late night snacks from a food truck that Sophie and Josh arranged to have waiting outside!

It was a beautiful day at The Langham Hotel! I was so honored to be their Boston Wedding Photographer!
